In Japan, there is anime broadcast in the midnight time zone when ordinary people are sleeping. Naturally, since viewership is low, a production company is in the deficit. However, broadcast contributes to the sales of the DVD and related product greatly. TV anime is advertisement.
I also regard a comic magazine as trying to grow into the advertisement medium of a Tankobon. In Japan of 40 years ago, it was mainstream to have rented and read Tankobon. I suppose, The magazine declines by the thing being developed for new environments such as Manga cafe and PC and the Tankobon becomes a mainstream again.
I checked "Fumiko no kokuhaku" by SNS pixiv.[link] In the profile of Tete, he is a 21 years-old college student. I can't believe it...
Yes, I agree that anime on TV and manga magazines work as good advertisements for DVDs, tankobon and merchandise. But, if only Tankobon are sold, as is often the situation in the US, it is harder for new artists to gain the attention of readers. It is also hard to get attention on the internet where there are thousands of individual comic series on their own sites and giant webcomic sites with thousands of individuals creating comics. A magazine assures a level of quality in the stories and presents a select few, but the internet is like dropping someone into the middle of a forest with no map, heehee.
I think web sites like sigIkki that I showed to you, are the future of manga presentation with print tankobon and merchandise available from these series. Shonen Sunday also has a web site like ikki in English [link] It is strange because it doesn't update on Sunday though, it updates on Wednesday in the US.

The Internet is a jungle without a map, to be sure. An excellent guide is required. I think that Manga distributed on the Internet should be chosen by the editor of the pro whom quality understands. It will become the contents toward which it uniform contents like Doujinshi sold by Comiket, if we leave the work only to selection by a user.
I understood the reason of the name of "Sunday" now. [link]

He talks about a decline in manga magazine sales like you had mentioned.
Also, have you seen this? [link]
A student produced it himself. It is cute, but he also experiments with interesting animation sequences.
